How that’s quite the incredible news. How is the japansphere reacting ?

Perhaps Oda's "surprise" in the weekly comment Kege posted above refers to Kochikame news.

Almost everyone is sad to hear it, but they seem to accept this news.

A feat which will never be repeated...salute.

I so wish it was translated in English volume by volume(for buying)...
“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it--always.”

Yeah I guess the fact that he says he wants to work on another serie instead of retiring didn’t help. But it’s true that 200 volumes was a perfect occasion

Kochikame will get the cover of the magazine for the last chapter!

And supposedly the last chapter and the last volume will come in the same day.

Wow, fairly soon the only series that was around when I joined and is still in publication will One Piece.

Hope the Kochikame guy takes a long vacation for himself. If I'm not mistaken, Kochikame never went on break ever, right? I recall someone mentioning that around here once.

Yes, Akimoto never took any breaks on 40 years of serialization (and he is only person who didn't take any break for this long time in all of Japan's mangakas).

It is hard to imagine Shonen Jack without Akimoto drawing Kochikame.

40 years, 200 volumes and never taking a break? That is truly impressive. It's even more amazing that he already thinks about doing a new series. After 40 years of non stop drawing I would take years off to relax, lol.

Btw that means that Slam Dunk and now Kochikame are the only two jump titles in history to have gotten the cover on their last chapters?

I rather want Akimoto to resume Mr. Clice than starting new one.

Kochikame's ending in a few weeks, while Toriko and Gintama seem like they'll end by 2017. That means the third oldest WSJ manga, behind OP (1997) and HxH (1998), is going to be Haikyuu (2012).

Oh wow, haikyuu the third oldest? Times are sure changing.

After op ends btw, hxh will still be ''running''.

Here is the longer interview for Akimoto Osamu and Heishi Yoshihisa (current Jump's chief editor). Basically, the reason for Akimoto ending Kochikame is that he wants to start a new series.

Akimoto made the announcement during the dedication ceremony for submitting giant Kochikame hand-scroll painting to Kanda Myoujin (one of most popular shrine in Japan).

He still has a lot of fuel to burn.
Shinji Mizushima and Takao Saito are both well into their 70s and still drawing manga.
