If he could go in a monthly schedule in WSJ or other magazine, even keeping the page count the same, it wouldn't be as controvertial.

But Togashi chose to work in JUmp. And being common doesn't mean it's not unprofessional either anyways. And besides which, there's a difference between essentially biweekly, or even monthly, and taking half a year or more off. Hell, Togashi's longest hiatus lasted more than 70 issues, so more than a year. You can;t consider that proffessional

If the hiatuses were scheduled and had a regular rhyme and reason to them, it'd be one thing. For instance, if he did 10 chapters, then took 10 weeks off, then did 10 chapter. That'd still be abnormal for jump, but at least regularly scheduled and predictable.

But... they're random. Get an unspecified amount of chapters, then get an unspecified length of break. When he comes back it might be for 10 chapters or 20, and then his break might be 6 months or 16. Its that randomness that makes it less professional and gives the impression of he doesn't give a fuck. (That, and the scribbles.)

The most annoying thing is that rather then tie up the election arc and not bring up anything new the guy brings up massive setup in the final chapter before his next hiatus.

Speaking of which, minus the Kurapika movie tie-in chapters, it's been almost one year exactly since the last hiatus started.

The breaks did have a formula for a while, where he was back 10, gone 20, or something similar, but that only went across about two returns before going out the window. As for it hitting a year since the last hiatus, I'd probably call this period as its time to return, unless Togashi counts his Kurapika work and stretches out this gap more.

The setup at the end of the last hiatus is a savvy bit of comic-ing to be sure. If it just ended with the election readers could choose to jump off and forget, but by giving a proper setup as to where it'll go next people still feel invested. It's a dick move, but a clever one.

Well yeah, the series would be OVER if he ended it on the previous chapter. He had to throw out that random from nowhere cliffhanger promise or else... well, that'd be the end of the series.

    ....

Good thing I never read that last chapter.

For me, I fogot about that last chapter and just think the series is over, way easier to deal with the hiatus like that. You know the feeling when you see people still discuss DB power levels and stuff when the series is long over? Well I feel like that when I see the HxH thread.

I feel like that with threads to anything with a significant fanbase, but then I'm an arsehole.

I dunno, I still talk about series long after they have happened. After all aren't there always going to be new fans who weren't into the series as it was running or was at a particular arc? As it happens last night/ early this morning I just finished rereading the second Hxh arc. Read it online since by the time I started buying Hxh volumes the early ones (1-7) were out of stock in my local comic shop. It always felt kind of wrong rereading all my other manga from the start but not with Hxh, so I decided the scans were fine.

Well for me One piece is a monthly comic as I read it once a month, for me Naruto ended in the its final chapter of Gaara Vs Lee and you know bleach ? It was good but very short comic something about 20 chapters or so. it ended when main guy returned home from soul society... -___- What I'm saying is we can think about things in certain way to make it easier, but until I read on the last page of HxH - "and so this story is complete" the manga will remain ongoing. Is it frustraiting? Hell yeah : (
    Think happy thoughts

I don't really get the whole sulking thing, honestly. Just go enjoy other things and don't think about it, and before you know it it'll be back.

Yeah, I guess like... what, well over 50% of the people here aren't paying to read Hunter x Hunter, so they got no real stock in whinging? fair point.

Actually Max I would but my local comic shop doesn't sell them anymore. There was nothing after volume 25, the last volume I was able to buy. It must be great for people who still blindly love Naruto and Bleach, those are all over the place.

    Did I say 100%? ;)

Besides, I dig your complaints, as you've brought up properly annoying stuff like the incomplete art, which is a huge issue.

(also speaking for myself? I buy the volumes. Legit manga wherever I can, man)

@Friend of Luffy and Gon: Fair enough, if there's no other venue to go through to get your hands on 'em, man. Piracy's a black area, but lack of availability is a pretty good argument.

Oh god, I shouldn't make piracy arguments, I'm nowhere near a saint myself (lord knows I try, but money's a tricky thing sometimes, innit)

EDIT: Eh, I suppose I shouldn't actually assume how many people do or don't pay, it ain't my business, and everyone here could be straight-up supporting this stuff, so sorry if anyone gets annoyed by the (literal) half-accusation

Not to rekindle any fires on the whole togashi is lazy thing: but the hiatuses sure arent helping it either.

To be honest Max, when I eventually move to Japan aside from whole runs of stuff that doesn't exist in England, such as Saint Seiya I plan on buyng whole runs there. Half my bookshelf atm is manga, and when I move my niece and nephew are getting the whole lot.

Although in fairness, it's probably going to be a few years before I get to Japan if I ever do, so I would rather concentrate on my American comics which would be harder to get there.

Edit: yeah Arc that's a valid point.

Please, not this "you can't say anything unless you buy" shit. We're not sending letters of complaint to Shueisha, we're just discussing our opinion on a website.

Before I get bashed here, yes, I have bought tons of manga volumes.
Doesn't mean I own everything I've read, which would be impossible. That won't stop me from stating my opinion though, be it favorable or not.

Amazon JP has a bunch of manga of early canned, and probably some of the more popular ones in kindle, for about 4$ (like 300 yens)
