Just finished Souma chapter 1 and it looks like a cooking manga, but I love the art. On a sidenote, you may be happy to hear I'm reading Eyeshield 21 and I'm loving it!

I'd say that Souma is a cooking battle series within natural bounds.

Good. I need something food related to fill the void of Hell's Kitchen. Not sure if it got canned or if translators got bored with it.

The food art in Soma is pretty amazing.

    From the most recent chapter,
    Spoiler:

Although most people note it for the amazingly delicious babe art, and not for the food.. the food is just as much an eyecandy porn as the babes.

It does, but not for long term. Isn't that obvious?
Oneshots are one thing, but if a serialization ends, something has to take its place.

If Medaka Box has to die for HxH to return for 20-30 chapters, so be it.

Damn you Togashi, damn you to the bottom of the TOC!

Last time that it got so close to an ending, I was welcoming it, but then it changed, and I started enjoying it more. I hope for a satisfying conclusion.

With the special power Togashi has I imagine Jump always have a place for him. I wonder if Oda would be able pull a Togashi if he ever wanted to. Not that he would want to he isn't the type.

My main man Oda would indeed never stoop so low as to exploit his legendary status to be lazy

That's the thing though, because the editors are so damn powerful in manga, we don't actually know whether Togashi is pure lazy or not, it's just internet speculation. For all we know he could have some sort of mental illness.

There're more chances Miura returns to work than Togashi does.

I've gone on at some length about the whole Togashi thing before, and there's enough proof out there that even if his health is okay that doing a regular serialisation strains him, as he was even like that with his comments back on YYH, but yeah it doesn't pay to speculate too much, as we don't see too much from behind the curtain.

Besides, those waiting for HxH to return don't even know. it's been over 6 years since Beet the Vandel Buster went on hiatus, and the magazine it was even in has long since closed. Imagine that. Torturous.

... Well, except it's been more than long enough to just move on, I suppose.

It's been 14 years since Appleseed went into coma, and despite fans wanting it finished, Shirow has no intention to.

    I'm still waiting.

That's pretty much his own damn fault though. He COULD have assistants like any normal artist (or...there is his Sailor Moon Wife too), but he deliberately chooses not to. I can understand Miura's reasoning why and he provides excellent solo art so it doesn't really matter anyway (he just works slower in result of it, but at least the quality is apparent. Also it should also be obvious to anyone that Miura is "probably" spending an ample amount of hiatus time working).

Togashi on the other hand produces some occasionally decent to downright lazy art. If this occupation is so stressful for him, then why not get an assistant or two? I can understand the reasoning behind why an artist wouldn't want assistants, but it makes more sense coming from Miura (the perfectionist) rather than Togashi. I don't buy any of this physical strain bullshit if he can simply JUST GET ASSISTANTS. It doesn't sound like his is in really bad condition like the D.Grayman author. Just get assistants and get the damn story over with.

    @aohige:
wait...appleseed is STILL going? I thought it finished long time ago.

It's not. It never ended, it just went to hiatus in 1989 and then years later artist said he has no plans to go back to it.
So it's left unfinished, despite the cries of the fans.

Just saying but I don't think 'being a perfectionist' is a good enough reason to take long breaks either

That's a matter of opinion.Miura at least is consistent with his releases, and doesn't put chicken doodles on pages of Young Animal. Which are both more than can be said than Togashi.
    Miura is just slow.

Very strange, I don't know if I should actually reread it because if the author has no intention of finishing it then what's the point?

Better reason than whatever the hell Togashi has. He has a "sickness", but he still has the gall to go to Comiket? Bullshit.

At least if you get a Miura release, you know you will be getting something visually worthwhile for the wait.

The thing is Miura's always working and drawing, but because he such a perfectionist/has such detailed art,it takes longer to release the chapters.

Yeah I agree that Togshi is in the wrong and all and probably quite lazy, it's just that when Miura is given a free pass from this just because he's a 'perfectionist' it just doesn't sit right with me. His art is fantastic but isn't it also his job to be able to find a balance between delivering a quality chapter and being able to adapt to a release schedule.
