Thread: The "Shueisha" Thread

Assassination Classroom is crushing it. If Viz won't put it in Alpha, surely they could just stick with volume releases right?
I hope AssClass gets much quicker updates like Toriko does, it deserves it.

What chapter of Takamagahara is this week? Seeing Barrage got cancelled at 16, the same fate might apply to Taka.

So I just read the one-shot Jugon Kitan Miyaura-san...

    HOLY

The pacing, the layouts, the art, paneling, design, plot, forshadowing, resolve, everything.
Looked like a seasoned veteran manga artist.

Who in the hell is this new guy, becuase it sure doesn't look like it belongs in a fresh new face oneshot entry.
Shuueisha needs to give this guy a serialization ASAP on one of their Jumps before he goes looking in competitors.

Dude could have landed an instant serialization pretty much any other magazine.

EDIT: According to 2ch it seems he's one of those super-rookie who had an one-shot two years ago when he was 17, making him around 19 this year. Apparently they have high hopes for him... if he's really 19 and can pump out something like this, that's impressive as fuck. Already looks completely pro-level competing on the front lines.

Were Kubo and Kishimoto also "super rookies" back in the day?

Kubo had a serialization before Bleach, so not really.
Oda is defenitely was one, he was pretty hyped from the start. So is Kishimoto.

This Miki guy can already draw heck of a lot better than Kubo when he started Bleach though.

What genre is that one shot? gag? adventure? slice of life? etc.

Shonen Jump seems to be saturated with gag and romance manga right now already. Sports manga seem to be fine too with having kuroko no sweatball, hq and now cross manage.
Hope the guy does either an good old shonen adventure story or maybe something that revolves around psychological tension(recent failed example enigma) or slice of life(bakuman).

Hmmm...... action adventure with spice of occultic mystery?

    It's basically Trigun with exorcism.

Goofy, polite, and kind hearted adult hero who is actually a hidden badass. Very Vash-like, down to secretly not being human.
But instead of guns, he uses exorcism to lift curses off people in feudal era Japan.

Sounds interesting. You think it has a good shot of being serialized?

Is there a scanlation of it? I'm really curious now that Aohige praised him so much

I don't think it has a chance of getting serialized, unfortunately.
It's not the type of protagonist or story that I think will appeal to the general readership of Jump.
But I think they should get him a serialization in Young Jump or Jump SQ first.
Otherwise, Kodansha, Shogakukan, or SQ-Enix may snag this guy up.

Seeing Bleach's sales surpassing JoJo's bothers me somehow.

Kochikame not moving is weird, It hasn't sold a single volume in a year? It's just not possible.

I think maybe they don't update it until the maga sells at least 10 thousand copies, which is way there are always four 0's in those sales.

Although Jojo had a longer run, Bleach received far more significant marketing and exposure (until recently with the anime cancellation). However, maybe it will change with Jojo reprints, the anime and so on. Let's see what happens on 2012-2013 regarding Bleach vs. Jojo sales.

Regarding Kochikame's numbers: the numbers are obviously rounded in the 10,000s. So I suppose Kochikame must have sold less than 5,000ish copies in one year (assuming the number was rounded from the prior year up to 70,000 from 65,000ish).

Honestly, I think most of Kochikame's sales occur within Bookoffs which is why the numbers don't change much. (Considering how hard it is to obtain the older volumes in a 200+ volume serie)

I'm sure there's been more than 10k sales of kochikame in the past 1 year.
They probably just don't have the updated numbers.

It's kinda hard to track it when you have nearly 200 volumes.

Double checked, the figure is just lifted off wikipedia, and that entry was updated 2011. So yeah.
They just don't know the 2012 figures.

Geez. OP sold more volumes in the last year than Hakusho, Kenshin or Hunter have in their entire lifetimes, and about as many as Bleach.

And it was just like 2 years ago they were making a HUGE deal out of it hitting the unprecedented 200 million mark with advertisements on the subways and stuff. It'll be at 300 by this time next year easily it seems.

WHY is it having such a ridonculous surge at this point in time?

Jojo has never really had an anime behind it. If it had a long running animation instead of just a couple old OVAs it'd be much bigger than it is.

    And... it soon will!

With all the hiatuses it'd be interesting to see where HxH would land if Togashi were consistent.

About Jojo... yes. After the start of the anime, all the advertisement EVERYWHERE in Japan, the Araki expo etc, I'm curious to see where it'll be next year.

I'm pretty sure that graph is cheating, because that number 270million came from August of this year, when vol.67 broke record sales.

QQ Aohige. What chapter is Cross Manage on and how many more weeks till it's ranked?

Personally, I think the story could use a bit quicker pace (or just explain Lacrosse more since I know next to nothing about it so I could get more excited about it), but I remember you and others spoke highly of it.
