How much do you two know manga?

Have you read Kindaichi shounen mysteries? One of the longest running, popular mystery manga around?
What if I told you that is drawn by a female artist?
How about the currently running Again!! in Shounen Magazine? From the acclaimed female author of Moteki?
One of the most enjoyable manga in magazine right now.
Hare nochi Guu! mangaka is also female.
How about the basketball manga Harlem Beat?

I don't think y'all realize how massive the manga industry is.
What you guys see scanlated are extremely small portion of the industry.

Hiromu Arakawa is certainly female, even though that's Shounen Gangen. And the author of Saiyuki: Reload is female. Although you'll probably classify her as a "Bad" author, Akira Amano, author of Reborn!, is female, too.
I called it wrong, so long ago. I guess this needs to be changed.

There're tons of female mangaka in every genre. I think the difference is bigger between what Shounen and Shoujo or Seinen and Josei look like. But even so, there are big variations between individual authors so it's only very generally speaking.
I'm trying to read some manga that aren't scanlated once in a while. But usually I end up behind on a lot of stuff I'm already reading and accumulate a bigger and bigger "To Read" list, so it's hard.
81 Diver was pretty good, I read volume 1 of that and liked it.

Enigma ended, and finished the story really well. I'll have some more free time now not needing to translate that.
The group that picked up Kokou no Hito is taking forever. And that manga's last chapter just came out, too. There're still 4 volumes worth left to be scanlated.

Thanks for the info. Quick question, what percentage of the manga industry in Japan would you estimate actually gets scanlated? 10% maybe?
My Hero Academia is my favorite manga series right now. At least so long as the high of its greatness remains. United States of Smash.

    Not even.

Almost none of the business lineup seinen magazines gets translated, nor do the majority of shoujo manga and lady's comics.
Entire Morning, Evening, Big Comic line-up, Business, etc, etc.

Only the most popular manga (which tends to be mostly shounen and few seinen and shoujo) gets translated.
Even in the shounen manga field, majority of manga doesn't get picked up.

I'd be surprised if even 1% is translated.

Some of the most popular long-running series never even gets looked upon.
Oishinbo? Salaryman Kintarou? Kochikame? Abusan? Dokaben? Sazae-san? Cooking Papa? Tsuri-baka Nisshi (The diary of a Fishing Fanatic)? Life of Shima Kousaku series?
How about Patalliro and Glass Mask? I know there are groups working on them, but only barely scratched its surface.
Majority of Sunday and Magazine stuff don't even get noticed. Worse, Champion doesn't even get acknowledged.

Don't know if you just said this randomly, or if it has any relation to your paragraph above, but just in case....
Yokusaru isn't a female artist, FYI.

If you like 81 Diver, check out Air Master. Art sucks, but he improved a lot.

I just mentioned that manga as a manga I'd just recently read.
It's true though. Really, Shounen Jump is the only magazine that comes close to having all of its manga scanlated. Jump SQ, Shounen Magazine, Shounen Sunday, all only have maybe half at best. Some may be done really really slowly where a group will eventually stop doing it and no one pick it up again. There are a lot of magazines which maybe only have one "well known" manga in them. Like Shounen Champion, Dengeki Daiou, Shounen Ace... There are tons of them really.
Here's a statistic on how many of each issue of various magazines gets published.

Everyone looked and talked like a Kingdom Hearts character. The white-haired bishounen bad guy wasn't cool. The main characters were the kind you can easily find in every jrpg ever, down to the "chosen one" hero. The dude, the girl, the axe-crazy girl, and the legendary mercenary dude all stuck me as mary sues. They kept on making smugfaces with this full-teeth grin, like the author himself was grinning like a motherfucker at how cool his characters were, and how sometimes things were just SO EMOTIONAL, especially for the main girl. She had to be told to "keep living" like 4 times in 23 chapters.

The main hook, "you must always hold hands" was unique, but struck me as something that, over time, would become extremely maudlin. It reminds me of that couple who you always see in the anime club, both of them 5/10 at best, resting their heads in eachothers' laps, and pressing their foreheads together, their unblinking eyes silently whispering to each other "you are my everything".

but I'm making it sound worse than it is. I wouldn't call it a bad manga, just an average one. I never understood why so many people loved the shit out of it, and were heartbroken when it ended.

Well, Kindaichi has awesome writing but... doesn't the credit belong to the writer?
Not to put her down or anything. Just saying.
BTW, my favorite female manga artists are Kaoru Mori and Kiriko Yumeji.
    CLAMP is worth mentioning.

Yeah, that's why I said "drawn" on her. However, her art brings life to the plot and characters.
Without the artist's name (rough), a mystery script is simply a script. There's two different writers to Kindaichi btw.
Brought her up since Kareem's statement was shounen "mangaka".

Mori Kaoru is awesome, but not a shounen mangaka.
If you steer away from shounen, there's flood of awesome female manga artists.

CLAMP is... well, CLAMP. I won't mention CLAMP. That's just asking for trouble.

Female mangaka discussion and no Urushibara Yuki mentions? For shame, I say.

Oh, shonen manga. Nevermind then. Although Urushibara is still amazing.

From Morning, you can read scanlates of Billy Bat or Vagabond (past tense), from Evening - All Rounder Meguru, from Big Comic Spirits - Homunculus or Good Night Pun Pun, from Shonen Champion - Worst or Akumetsu (past tense), etc. So you can't say their entire line ups don't get scanlated. But, sadly, it's still laughably close to that - of all the titles, usually those by authors with established names like Endo or Inio get picked up. Other, more obscure manga have a slim chance to get a stable scanlation. Seinen magazines have more variety then shonen - but proportionally less groups translating them.

We can only wish for more Afternoon, IKKI or Bessatsu Shonen Magazine scanlate. Or that someone learns of what AX is.

Beelzebub is so low. I wonder why :/

At least ST&RS is climbing up.

Bakuman is first. Hasn't seen it up there in forever. ST&RS is staying fifth from bottom. That's at least something. And Gintama has a clourspread, yay!

    Only Bleach is sixth.
