So I was looking for an anime to watch yesterday and was looking up some recommendations, and came upon some raving reviews of this:

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (2011)



At first you'd be like, ew, cutesy magical girl team, right? Holy crap was I ever wrong.

This anime should be mentioned among the top greats. It is a complete deconstruction of the "magical girls" concept coupled with hard hitting surrealism and a plot that makes you want to watch the whole series over again just to understand what you didn't before. This is a magical girl story for adults.

It has 12 episodes and no plot filler or fanservice. Give it a try.
