They've done nothing but air 6 hours of Teen Titans Go a day for years now anyway, Adult Swim is where they make all the new stuff that actually gets attention. They haven't been relevant ina loooong time.

But yes, very much trying to mirror the Nick model.

As long as they're not trying to bring back live action shit.

Also, didn't CN already try a pre-school block or am I misremembering?

    No.

Also they're not copying Nickelodeon since Nickelodeon had enough sense to eventually make Nick Jr. it's own thing....Don't know why Nick Mom was tied to it though. They're literally trying to take it back to 2005.

I know we joke about how bad things have gotten with CN in the modern era but jesus christ.

Okay did they have a fight with WB or something. They had tons of new content from them. Not all great but it's SOMETHING: Justice League Action, The Tom & Jerry Show, Bunnicula, the Wacky Races reboot. Hell I barely even see DC Super Hero Girls on the network. Why are they only focusing on the stupid Titans, Gumball and Craig? Gumball's virtually on it's way out after the movie. This "Nick" model is a crutch, it's not helping the network any because it just keeps it stagnant while goldmines of new material just float on by. I know were in the digital age and streaming is sapping all the attention but at least try to work with what you have, and by that I mean ALL you have, not just in-house products (for crying out loud, Gumball is an international co-production with their Europe branch). Speaking of where Victor and Valentinio and Mao Mao, I haven't heard much from those series, give them some more re-run love. But no, no. that Boomerang channel, which mind you was meant to replay cartoon from years past, is just a great dumping ground for what they don't care about. It's still filling the obligation to be aired, but no one said it had to be on the MAIN network. Yay loopholes.

=_= I know the media world isn't easy to navigate and you'll have to make concessions, but this is just... frustrating.

Besides some stuff on Adult Swim, I haven't really watch much of Cartoon Network since Steven Universe and OK KO ended. The only upcoming show on Cartoon Network, I know I will be watching is the new season of Total Drama.

I'm starting to think that the suits behind WB, CN, and DC are the pettiest and dumbest suits in the bizz right now.

One of the former Cartoon Network execs hated the fact that they had "Cartoon" in their title. That was the era where they had all the forgettable low budget live action garbage that no one remembers.

They were absolutely the wrong person to be in charge.

Kind of like whoever turned the Sci-Fi channel into the SyFy channel and added wrestling. Its been over a decade and that's STILL dumb.

You have a niche, own it. You'll get your ratings from the people that want that and kleep your channel on all the time because that's what they want..

Believe it or not they got good ratings for some of that. But yeah it did lead to some bullshit.

Hmmm does this mean they can still randomly cancel shows whenever and even if a good number of people watch it?

Or randomly fuck around with it’s schedule killing viewership in the process?

Well no, ideally the person in charge would actually *like* their content and want to support everything the believed in.

As opposed to folks in charge that hate the entire genre and are only there for the $$$.

    o_- What...is this timeline?

Seriously do kids today even know who Urkel is? The only reruns of Family Matters I see are on, like, some networks you gotta pay extra for. Last time Jaleel played the role was for that Scooby Doo and Guess Who show. I let that slide cause it was just for fun, but it was obvious he couldn't do the voice as well as he could in the 90s due to being older. So why suddenly focus on him now out of the blue like this? I know this is the reboot era but..just really?

When Disney bought Fox a few years ago, they were pretty clear in that there was no way Adult Swim was going to be able to extend their deal for the Fox shows when the current ones expired. I think the one for Bob's Burgers still has a couple years left on it but they won't get any new episodes since those are airing on FXX. It's been that way for a while now though and that might haven even been the case before Disney bought Fox.

I know, Cartoon Network is making the Urkel Christmas Special. But I didn't expect the Network to air Family Matters a couple hours ago.

Is there some particular reason Warners is going all in on Steve Urkel lately?

A Christmas special, airing Family Matters on Cartoon Network, a Scooby-Doo crossover. Why that show and right now after they've owned it for decades?

At a guess its now exactly the right age that people that grew up on the show are now old enough to be in charge and fond of it.

Apparently the upcoming special was written and produced by Wyatt Cynac, who I only know from the Daily Show, but is the exact same age as Jaleel White which means he would have been exactly the target audience when it started airing. (And as one of the three longest running black led sitcoms in history...)

But it didn't get a follow up twenty years sequel of "the kids have grown up and have their own kids now" to wash out the nostalgia like Boy Meets World or Full House or Roseanne did.

Or maybe with that Scooby Special Jaleel White finally made peace with the role and is actually willing to revisit it now, as long as he doesn't have to actually put on the outfit. (though in the Scooby Special his voice had aged and dropped way too much to actually do the role anymore, so it was weird.)

I know some other stuff from similar era is getting new attention now for no particular reason. Like Gargoyles is suddenly getting a ton of merchandise out of nowhere this last year, and there's absolutely no reason for it to be getting new action figures and a board game in 2021, but it is.

Or The Slayers getting a new translation of its original novels, even though the company doing it is otherwise only doing modern isekai series, it's the only old thing on the roster.... because obviously someone on staff was a fan and really wanted it to happen.

Or all the current crop of animated kids shows being run by folks in their 30s who grew up on modern anime and knew it *as* anime, and that completely affects their style and design choices.

On the new Cartoon Network Preschool block, they are airing Caillou. Which is a really bad show, which to a point that PBS had to banned several episodes of the series. Because some of the episode were teaching kids to have really bad tantrums.
