Not really, but I don't see the exact nature of why its a wrong decision to release to the NDS, and your points don't seem to stand very well.

I think it sucks shitballs that it's on DS. I gave my reasons. It stands that no matter how far the DS is pushed 'to it's limits' it's diddly compared to what it could be on the Wii. No way it can surpass the previous installment in every way.
That depends on what you mean by 'surpass'; does a future DQ game HAVE to be better than its predecessors or does it HAVE to be on a system with high end capabilities?
Because neither of those matter so long as a DQ game is fun and entertaining.
However, what you seem to show is what is seen from certain consumers who want the latter to necessarily be better than the predecessor in every shape and way.

There really isn't any arguing that. It's reality. No one said it was going to be a bad game. Breath deep and have a seat. I wasn't pissing on anyone's grave, just giving my thoughts on an asshole business decision.
How is it an asshole business decision when at the time they decided to work on the game, the NDS was the leading console? ...and even if it wasn't...they probably wanted to try out something different/different approach. Is trying something else now a bad business decision or direction? Cuz I've seen a good example of that in some other games, and the only reason it didn't work was cuz fans were a bunch of whiny, greedy and needy fangirls.

Chrono Trigger is a perfect example of a game that didn't need good graphics, voice acting etc. to still be a good game. I would even go as far to say, that it still one of the best games ever, even now.

Then again, i also think a game needs to improve. And going with old standards (on the current gen handhelds), there is only so much that a game can improve on.

Most Dragon Quests from this point on is gonna have voice acting, right? The English dub of VIII was the first, then Japan followed by giving Swords for the Wii voice acting. I don't suspect the portable DQ's to carry it, but console versions.

And therein lies the rub. It's as if I actually was insane enough to mention somewhere that this would be a 'bad' game.

    No.

I just think it's ass that they're follow an INCREDIBLE product with one that is cheaper and easier to produce and will fail to surpass above mentioned product by nature of hardware and logistic limitations that will still create a fortune.

Not really, but I don't see the exact nature of why its a wrong decision to release to the NDS, and your points don't seem to stand very well.
It's not a 'wrong' decision. Not by a long shot. It's a brilliant one. And my points don't even need support. They're fact and they're coming from a fan (me).

That depends on what you mean by 'surpass'; does a future DQ game HAVE to be better than its predecessors or does it HAVE to be on a system with high end capabilities?
That depends on whether a console is capable of replicating the experience and fully improving on it. Which is not the case here.

Because neither of those matter so long as a DQ game is fun and entertaining.
Is trying something else now a bad business decision or direction?
It's thoughts like these that give birth to things like Final Fantasy 12.

There is no venom in my words when I describe how I feel about this reality. It's a brilliant choice that will fund at least two more FF7 games. Doesn't make it any less sneaky.

Chrono Trigger was mentioned as a game that didn't need high production values to be decent.

Reality-check. Chrono Trigger is one of the most incredible displays of exactly what high production value could do for a SNES game. The only other games that give off that kind of sheen from that era are Secret of Mana 3, FF6 and to a lesser extent SMRPG. I'm not talking about fun games, simply games that blew our eye-sockets away, games that have us humming the same tunes to this day, games that redefined exploration. So yeah, today it may not be much, but back then it was the Gears of War 2 of SNES.

I'm writing as if I'm some long-standing fan of DQ but I'm not. I can't stand the menu or battle system up until 8. But what I do feel passionate about is that a company throw it's all into developing flagship titles and I don't mean just heart, I mean money, time, licenses, etc.

    "Greg that's so selfish."

No, it makes me a happy consumer because I know I'm getting the best product they can give. And we have a system announcement for the next title before 9 is out? Apparently they can do better.

    That is all.

Wellll... maybe I'm just crazy, but I think it's more fun to try and enjoy a game for what it is instead of agonizing over what it might have been.

I mean, take a look at Castlevania, one of my all-time favorite series. Symphony of the Night was awesome, released about ten years ago on the Playstation when I was back in middle school. Since then, fans have been clamoring for more 2D games in Symphony's style, on the most powerful hardware available. Instead, we've been getting some great 2D games on handhelds and disappointments on consoles. These 3D Castlevania games, while not *awful*, lack the detail, design sophistication, and impact of Symphony.

Now, that situation isn't much fun. I want to see a new 2D Symphony-style epic on the PSWii60 as much as anyone. It's disappointing, frustrating, and all kinds of other nasty adjectives. But should this mean I shouldn't enjoy the handheld games as a result of this disappointment? Even though IGA and the rest of the Castlevania team aren't giving me and other fans what we want, I still have fun playing the Castlevania handhelds. Sure, it isn't exactly what I want; sure, Konami might be acting lazy or not up to the series' full potential; I still have fun with those handheld games. So sue me.

So, even though I've already been talking for too long, I'll keep going. I'm also a little disappointed that they're following DQ VIII, one of my favorite PS2 games and my second-favorite DQ game, with a handheld game that will likely be less technically strong than its predecessor. But should I be really upset, or should I try to enjoy the new handheld game despite it not being exactly what I want? I'll take that second option, thanks.

You can enjoy a game while still being disappointed about it, you know.

When I was in school I definitely agreed with this. But now that I have a wife and a job, suddenly I don't have as much down time. Getting to play games is like...it's like procreation. Before I could just veg out and waste HOURS, DAYS, WEEKS, MONTHS of my life on games but things ar different now. Suddenly my concept of free time is somewhat different. I mean, I feel guilty when I look through OP for errors for my site. I have some burning desire for the best and brightest product I can get my hands on not to mention because of our wedding and feeding two people on a one-person income, I'm literally a YEAR behind in video games, I want to play THE BEST all-around product I can, as soon as I can. And for the record, if 9 and 10 were being simultaneously developed I wouldn't have a single nasty thing to say.

I mean, take a look at Castlevania, one of my all-time favorite series. Symphony of the Night was awesome, released about ten years ago on the Playstation when I was back in middle school. SotN is remarkable. But nothing has trounced it on the GBA or DS. I'm not saying 3D is the answer. Not by a long-shot. I personally think 3D is a curseword in the Castlevania world. Every night before I go to sleep I finish my prayers with, "...and a hand-drawn 2D Castlevaniod." In fact, you brought up a GREAT point about this title.

Every GBA or DS Castlevania I've played has been amazing. I've LOVED them. But everytime I describe them I always end with, "...but it's no SotN."

I have an inkling this will be the exact same case.

Greg, I can't help but feel we have the same opinion, but different perspectives. That sounds strange, like opinion and perspective should be synonyms, but in this case I think they're two different concepts. Ah, well.

Wahahahaha what the hell? It's awesome that we get a DQ on the Wii but the DQ series has a reputation for "simmering in the pot" as they say. There was like a 6 year difference between the release dates of DQ7 and DQ8 (I have no idea if it's really 6 years though but you get the idea) so I wonder when the hell this would be released. Hell, DQ9 is coming out in 2009, like 5 years after DQ8 in Japan, so come on! Wish it was for the next generation so we won't notice how outdated it will by the time it comes out in like 2013.

It's hard to believe DQVIII came out back in 2004. I beat the game earlier this year after years of playing it... God damn, that game is awesome.

This isn't much of a surprise . Well, VIII was nice so I don't mind about more of the same.

The whole deal with 3D Castevanias has much more to do with the talent (or lack of it) of those who are involved then with those games being in 3D.

The game is due out in Europe on the 20th February! We are getting it after the US this time, but it's the same week so that's not too bad at all.

This is not bad at all when you think about Chrono Trigger DS being released in Europe 3 months after both the japanese and the us releases.

I'm looking forward to this DQ V since I never played it.

Just a few days away from its release, haven't heard anything about delays so we should get it this month.

Looking forward to this, one of the greatest RPG's of all time. And the UK release date is only a few days after the us, so for once, I don't have to import.

I think that DQ IV and V were actually localized (er, "localised") in Great Britain, and there is very little difference between NTSC and PAL DS carts. That's probably why the UK and US versions come out so close together. But hey, that's good for everyone, right?

Well, I just married Debora. She's... really a bitch. The game still pushes the Bianca marriage, but now Flora's a lot more sympathetic. Debora's put in there for a third option, but you're more discouraged than encouraged to pick her, it's hilarious.

EDIT: Do you, [Hero] take Debora, to love and cherish, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall be resurrected from death in the church? (I lol'd)
