Thread: Stan Lee and Takei Hiroyuki present...

  1. #1

Default Stan Lee and Takei Hiroyuki present...

    Ultimo
The series will appear in Jump Square 2nd (a new magazine) and will feature a bonus 32 pages Stan Lee characters tribute illustrations.

Here's hoping his new (Takei) series will be good.
I didn't get to read Jumbor yet (link to scanlations plz?), but likewise I'll wait for some time before reading it.

There's no way anything good could come out of that.

Jump Square was the successor to Monthly Jump right? And now there's a successor to that? Already? :|

It looks like the Stan Lee stuff will just be cameo work though, not something long term?

This "Ultimo" thing is probably just a one-shot in a one-shot magazine akin to the Akamaru Jump coming out for Golden Week. Personally don't know what to think: it could be cool but a lot of Stan Lee's ideas have been rather hit-or-miss since he left Marvel.

Stan Lee left Marvel? I had no idea...

And the character designs look weird.

I didn't know Stan Lee left Marvel either.

Lee will always be associated with Marvel but he's been doing his own thing for a while now. Formed his own company and been working for everyone from DC to...well, Jump.

That's what I gathered as well.

    Odd if he's left.

I don't think Stan Lee founded Marvel. He was just a writer there since the 40s...and really didn't find prominence until bringing in Marvel's Silver Age in the 60s.

OK, a bit more on that from Wiki:

With the help of his uncle, Robbie Solomon, pulp magazine and comic-book publisher Martin Goodman,[6] Lee became an assistant at the new Timely Comics division of Goodman's company. Timely, by the 1960s, would evolve into Marvel Comics. Lee, whose cousin Jean[7] was Goodman's wife, was formally hired by Timely editor Joe Simon.[8]
Young Stanley Lieber's first published work, the text filler "Captain America Foils the Traitor's Revenge" in Captain America Comics #3 (May 1941), used the pseudonym "Stan Lee", which years later he would adopt as his legal name. Lee later explained in his autobiography and numerous other sources that he had intended to save his given name for more literary work. This initial story also introduced Captain America's trademark ricocheting shield-toss, which immediately became one of the character's signatures.[9]

Stan Lee hasn't done anything relevant for marvel since the 1960's. These days, he's just a cute old man who really likes publicity and doesn't remember most of the stories he wrote.

    Not really.

Aside from hanging out with the guys and giving interviews, he doesn't do anything at marvel these days.

He did write a fantastic four recently, but it was really, really awful. And completely irrelevant too.

I think the problem is that the world really has changed since the time Stan Lee was relevant. Just because he revolutionized a company in the 60s means he gets a free pass with anything, even if more recent things have lead to...well, Stripperella.

Oh, an interesting thing I found: besides the Ultimo one-shot, it looks like they are having some sort of Stan Lee booklet with a few mangaka doing some other stuff. (I know Yusuke Murata and Masakazu Katsura are two confirmed...sort of wish Watsuki was but I think he was more influenced by 80s Marvel)
