Re: What are you reading? (Literature)

Okay, I guess I might try and read all 40 Discworld books. Ouch, my wallet.

Think about surnames like Smith and given names like Peter. And that's just Anglo-saxon names, but I believe multiple, if not all, languages have those. Heck, you can give people names of flowers...

It's interesting, because as a Hungarian, this isn't really an issue for me. "A" and "I" together don't really pronounce any other sounds.

Oh, I agree the reader isn't in an optimal state right now. I think it's more of an explanation and less of an excuse. Change is needed of course, and hopefully the people in charge soon start taking...

I can kind of understand the reasoning and thought process behind those who complain heftily about Mangaplus. I know that feeling all too well, thinking that the solution is so painfully obvious and...

I guess the translation of names mostly comes to down to the creativity of the translator. In Harry Potter, the name translations were almost always pretty close to the original both in sounding and...

Oh, yeah, I guess he wasn't called Tom Denem in the original, huh.

In Hungarian too. Hogwarts became Roxfort, Griffyndor became Griffendél, Severus Snape became Perselus Piton (as in the snake). Most of them if not all are pretty well-done in my opinion.

I do have to admit, seeing Zolo over and over again conjured in my mind the Age of Empires priest converting "wololo" sound.

I guess the Jinbe-Jimbei debate is a little different since the pronounciation is almost identical in this case, so I think it's less noticable. "n" and "m" also look very similar to each other, so...

I've seen one or two such guides, but this one seems the most comprehensive and easier to understand.

I decided to start with the Death series. I'm already in love with the writing style~

The short answer is, of course you aren't a bad person for that. I'd argue it's a quality deserving of praise, not having children if one doesn't feel one's ready for it.
