  1. Re: Mamoru Hosoda and Makoto Shinkai- The not quite Ghibli thread

Yep, almost exact experience (though I'm fine with second half of Wolf Children). Felt like Hosoda changed his mind on what movie he wanted to make halfway through. Mirai is the same, but, like,...
  2. Re: Mamoru Hosoda and Makoto Shinkai- The not quite Ghibli thread

Refresh my memory, what was your takeaway on Boy and the Beast, Robby? I thought it was pretty, but seemed massively unfocused.
  3. Re: Mamoru Hosoda and Makoto Shinkai- The not quite Ghibli thread

    *gasp* how dare you

I accept many criticisms of Your Name, but boring is a new one. Ah well.

I'd skip Mirai and keep your opinion of Hosoda pure. Personally didn't care for Boy and the Beast...
  4. Re: Mamoru Hosoda and Makoto Shinkai- The not quite Ghibli thread

Garden of Words was a movie I kinda enjoyed but spent most of it wishing the ages weren't so uncomfortable.

This is really the only one I unabashedly liked besides Your Name.
  5. Re: Mamoru Hosoda and Makoto Shinkai- The not quite Ghibli thread

well, unless I'm missing it having a separate thread, surprised there's not some Weathering With You discussion in here. Saw it Wednesday at the preview screening. It's definitely going to be more...

Re: Star Wars Universe - Resurrection F

I've had The Clone Wars (CG, not Tartakovsky) on as background for the last few weeks and have to say I'm a bit disappointed I missed out on all of it. Starts off very generic kiddy adventure and...

Enjoyed Gen not having a clue what to do for once.

Story does have a bit of the ole One Piece problem in that it doesn't like keeping villains as villains.

Sticky: Re: American Politics thread: No Nazis Allowed

    About the same as Bevin's, mid-to-low 30s.

Would take even more stuff coming together than with Bevin to unseat him, tho. This is still Trump Country and a very red state.

    haaaa, fuck youuuuuuuuuuuu Bevin

very nice as a Kentucky resident, but he will assuredly be pushing a recount, and don't put any kinds of ratfuckery past the GOP around here

Re: General Square Enix Thread II

Would actually put Heavensward and Stormbringers in contention for my favorite FFs now.

It's probably easier to list the games that never crack favorite lists, which would be 2, 13, and probably...

Re: General Square Enix Thread II

I could expound on this more, but I just finished Shadowbringers after a three-month power-through of FFXIV and it's the best FF experience since at least X. Story, music, character are all top in...

Microsoft has really just been playing catch-up, which is perfectly fine. Sony's first-party studio lineup was already pretty darned good, and Insomniac was practically a common-law Sony First-Party....

Re: Dragon Quest thread : DQXI on PS4, 3DS & Switch

It is very, very good. Still has some annoyances--so much text!--but the central hub island is such a better version of what they tried to do in the first game.

    Also, probably goes without...

    That's good to hear.

I can't see myself touching it while it's a phone game, as much as I love the other TGC games.

Re: General Mario series thread [Odyssey Edition]

3D World was also pretty good, tbh, as well as 3D Land.

Nothing since Mario 64 has felt as cohesive, though, with Odyssey coming the closest (with the disclaimer I haven't played much Sunshine)....

    Re: General Zelda thread

Fair. In this case, was thinking less WiiU->Switch than, say, 3DSXL->New 3DS XL, where it'll work fine on the Switch but better on the Switch Pro or whatever is supposedly in the hopper with all the...
