Sticky: Re: General Anime Discussion Thread

697 is one of, if not the, worst episodes we've had in the entire run, IMO. Awful production values, pacing, directing, and completely butchered what was intended to be a major moment - it had it all.

Sticky: Re: General Anime Discussion Thread

Episode 307 is the one that immediately comes to my mind whenever this question is asked. Despite having the inhumanly-talented Hironori Tanaka as the top-credited animator it looked like complete...
  3. Sticky: Re: 893: "O-Tama Appears - Luffy vs. the Kaido Army!"

We likely won't be getting the other Straw Hats' eye catches until they show up again. Better than the second set when the show first went HD. It was just Luffy's for at least a year until the...

In my case, I don't own a TV and don't need one given my current living situation, so something like this was exactly what I was waiting for before taking the plunge. I wouldn't carry this thing...

Poll: Re: A Study of One Piece Animation

I can't wait for all the concern trolling that's going to come out if/when these episodes' quality takes a hit.
  7. Re: 892: ''The Land of Wano! To the Land of Samurai Where Cherry Blossoms Dance''

Exactly. I meant in the sense of how the new art style and aesthetic will hold up on blatantly lower-priority episodes.
  8. Re: 892: ''The Land of Wano! To the Land of Samurai Where Cherry Blossoms Dance''

The obligatory Stampede tie-in filler coming towards the end of the month is going to be telling, methinks.

Re: Pokemon Sword and Shield - Galexit Edition

I love the massive middle finger that's aimed at everyone who ever bitched about the Vanilluxe line.
  11. Re: 892: ''The Land of Wano! To the Land of Samurai Where Cherry Blossoms Dance''

Short of it is, the show is now being directed by the director of Film Z and the Broly movie and there's been an art style overhaul courtesy of a new character designer and post-processing methods so...
  12. Re: 892: ''The Land of Wano! To the Land of Samurai Where Cherry Blossoms Dance''

One of, if not the most visually-interesting episodes of One Piece so far? I'd certainly say so. While I'm kinda 50/50 on how the arc's been unfolding so far in the manga, this was an excellent...
  13. Re: One Piece Opening 22: "Over The Top" by Hiroshi Kitadani (7th July)

Takara didn't work on the opening. FYI the animators were:

Yong-ce Tu (villain lineup, Kid and Hawkins, a decent chunk of Luffy vs. Kaido)
    Tetsuro Tsuyuki
    Takashi Kojima (Luffy struggling in...

Poll: Re: A Study of One Piece Animation

So if the opening isn't lying, while Nagamine's nominally the series director, Kureta and Komaki are sharing that position too. Welp.
  15. Re: One Piece Opening 22: "Over The Top" by Hiroshi Kitadani (7th July)

Also, at the very end Luffy does the same flip that Goku does at the end of Super's second opening. The composition of that shot's the exact same too. You can definitely see Nagamine's fingerprints...
  16. Re: One Piece Opening 22: "Over The Top" by Hiroshi Kitadani (7th July)

Interesting point. That's actually the approximate length the openings used to have up until they switched to the 2.5 minute standard (Believe, Towards the Light, and Bon Voyage were all padded out...
  17. Re: One Piece Opening 22: "Over The Top" by Hiroshi Kitadani (7th July)

I have to dock a point for continuing that stupid-ass "insert clips from the actual episode" thing they started with "Super Powers" once the Reverie began (unless they're hiding something but I can't...

I'm guessing Oda came up with her color scheme before he decided to just grab Sharpies at random for the Wano cast lol

  23. Re: 891: "Climb the Falls! The Great Journey Through the Land of Wano's Sea!"

Re: New One Piece Movie "Stampede" (August 2019)

I was mostly being tongue-in-cheek, but I'll bit: I'm playing along with the perception of Sanji always getting the short end of the stick compared to the rest of the Monster Trio. Luffy and Zoro are...

We'll probably find out once this (next) week's JUMP spoilers come out; I'm pretty sure that Yong-ce Tu has tweeted about working on the next opening, but I could be wrong.

    Edit: Yep, here it is....

Re: New One Piece Movie "Stampede" (August 2019)

Man, Luffy fights an ex-Roger Pirate, Zoro goes up against an Admiral (again), and Sanji's stuck with fuckin' Smoker. Typical.
