The Die Has Been Cast

The dad has a solid asshole portrayal. I was worried they would try to redeem him as a misunderstood figure despite being so fucked up he wouldn't name the kids. The villain gets creepier when you know his agenda. 5 is easily the best character of the show and never disappoints. The handler that appears in the second half is a fun character. And Allison which in any show would be average is actually a breath of fresh air in that shitty portrayal of dysfunction and as such the big oh shit moment works from her side. Didn't care much for Vanya tho.

I also quite enjoy the Hazel subplot of him finding interested in a simple life and wanting to be done with all the murdering. It starts quirky but it is heartwarming by the end. And I like that they him find interest in a older woman but they dont make fun of it or use it for cheap comedy.

Not too say there weren't some good things about it. Once you get past the slog of the first 4(and it is a slog) it gets pretty entertaining and it tells me they could have done better. They give Klaus a backstory that should have there from the very beginning(maybe too late). They drop the mystery and focus instead on family drama which works much better by breaking totally down Luther(which for 2 episodes tricked me into thinking I might like him). Also the more interesting characters finally get the spotlights.It even has real humor now. They even make fun of how silly a lot of the earlier bs were like Diego breaking windows for no reason or their drama when the world is dying..

I think Umbrella Academy suffers from me having watch Doom Patrol first. It's the same reason I never recommend someone reading the book before the film. You'll just spend your time lamenting what's missing instead of judging it for what it is. I gave up at episode 3 and only came back to it because the reaction channel I watch were doing it(Blind wave. They are pretty fun check it out if you can).

I dont know if the characters were boring but they had very messy characterisation and were definitely annoying. I think they try to do disfunction but forgot to put the slight bit of decency that makes you root for them. I didn't like Jane in DP but even then I could see the work done in Jane in terms of writing. By the end I just ended up hating Luther and being ok with Klaus which are clearly the one you are supposed to turn around on. And I think the plot truly hurts it. It goes for the mystery when DP knew to focus on character.

Also if I don't explain to you medical police by the weekend reminds me. That thing is fascinating.

If you can only pick one. Pick unreal. Much more interesting subject I feel. Also shorter. Get past the first episode or 2. I remember not liking them back then but it works on rewatch.

I managed to watch 3 episode of Umbrella. It really makes me think Doom Patrol in that it's basically superheroes with dysfunctional family made by a questionable dad. I prefer DP but Im interested on your take if you ever check it out.

I remember mostly skipping around in Mandolorian. By that I mean I pick and choose the episode I like. I like the other badass lady he came across and the baby is cute as hell I just wish it didn't have force powers. I have to check out the Witcher but first raising Dion. Witcher looks like one of those show where I will need to bing 5-6 to be invested by having absorb the lore.

Just started umbrella Academy. It looks like a cousin of Doom Patrol.

After that I plan on watching Raising Dion.

Aldo on a personal note I hate the idea of sequels. Most people see a movie they love and they go I hope they make another one. My usual response when I finish watching a movie I love is it was great and I hope they leave the story alone. I love inside out. I dont need inside out 2.

I think at my best I dont mind either way but im not sure i can remember actively rooting for one to happen... Oh yeah I think I wanted a Cap movie after winter soldier that focused on Cap. Cant remember something else.
