Hello, is that Fats Waller in your signature? It looks pretty much like him
Indeed, that is some of the beauty and power in music and art in general. Anyway, I mentioned the Truckers because lotsa people over at RYM whom I respect speak highly of them. Yeah they're quite the country nut(s) to crack, but I find them growing on me everytime I listen to their stuff. Try hitting their stuff up on Spotify or something - mebelieves their entire discography to be up there!
Interesting! I grow up in pretty urbanised Singapore so yeah I need to wrap my head 'round some of the more simplistic/folksy/rural elements ya know? Say, what're your thoughts on Drive-By Truckers anyway? They're more Rock and Roll than Country true but the influence is quite strong. Also because they strike me as quite "mainstream-ish", even if they are technically an indie/alternative band.
I do notice that country/country-influenced artists (like Springsteen as you mentioned) seem to be the last "taboo" artists for us music nerds. I'm pretty sure even noise is enjoyed by a greater proportion of us dweebs more often. Possibly something to do with the reputation it enjoys being stereotyped as "redneck"? :P
Just so you know, part of the humour in me posting that song in the Forced Listening Thread was that Neil Young is Canadian. Also, that song is famous for the spat between Young and the Skyrnyrd boys, though it ended amicably with both folks on good terms:
I'm glad you enjoy them! They've been in heavy rotation for me in the last month or so. They've got a sound that can be really downbeat or even depressing, but always beautiful. I dig those kinds of moods, so it's a natural fit under music I love that doesn't sound like it will tear your face to ribbons, haha.
Damn. I really wanted to share that song, haha. I love the band, though, so I'll replace the song with one that I can actually find on the youtubes.
Huh, maybe it's a regional thing. Does the song show up at all if you scroll through the playlist on the bottom, or are those the only ones it will let you play?
Is the link sending you to the band's myspace page? There should be a playlist on it with an album containing the song.
